Received From Heaven
John the baptist said of Jesus, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven." I think it is something to really consider regarding ministry. There are people with large amounts of influence, like Jack Hayford, Bill Hybels, Joel Osteen, Wayne Cordeiro, Henry Shore. As I have been thinking of my role as Unit Supervisor, and that I oversee some pastors, I have wondered how it the world did I get to this place. For many, they would consider it a very small place, but for me, I consider it a very big place. I am little in a big place, but this scripture helps me see that it has been God who has given me people who will follow. I have always known this, but it's encouraging to see this verse, and rest in it. It gives me more confidence, and a greater sense of humility, to lead.
I'm Hearing Voices...and I'm listening!
I've started to read beyond my norm. Although I have enjoyed reading The Church Awakening by Chuck Swindoll with our staff, I am also very challenged as I read Love Wins by Rob Bell and the devotional book Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen. I'm also listening to Francis Chan and preparing my heart to hear from those wheo will be speaking at ICFG Connection 2011 in Columbus. I'm again learning to think criticallyq, without being critical.
