Carry No Burden

S ~ Then I posted some of my servants at the gates, so that no burdens would be brought in on the Sabbath day. Neh 13:19b

O ~ Carry no burden on the Sabbath. Everyone needs a day to be burden-less.

A ~ This is the scripture that Charley Blom shared with Audrey and I at Genesee Home. "Carry no burden on the Sabbath". I need to remember this. To take a day where there are no burdens. This reminds me of the need for a Sabbath. So many things run through my mind as I type. Re-reading "The Rest of God" by Mark Buchanan. Differentiating between a day off and a Sabbath day. What does a Sabbath day look like alone? with Audrey? with the kids??  I guess the immediate application would be to talk about this with Audrey. I will copy this note to her to help make this application a reality.

P ~ Lord, please help me and my Dree walk burden-less for 24 consecutive hours per week. I want to honour the 'spirit' of this principle.

Unaware of the Presence of Jesus

S ~ But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him. (Luke 24:16 NKJV)

O ~ On the road to Emmaus, Jesus walked with two disciples. Two disciples who were talking of all the things that had happened in Jerusalem. They 'conversed and reasoned', and when Jesus drew near, they did not recognize Him. He calls them 'slow of heart to believe'.

A ~ I wonder how many time I too, 'converse and reason' about Jesus, and when He draws near, don't recognize His presence. They attempted to explain things to Jesus. I wonder if any pride crept in their hearts - 'let us tell you what happened - we've got some perspective on this'. I want to be aware of the presence of Jesus, and recognize His nearness ~ not just quote facts, verses, theology, or my perspective.

P ~ Lord, I know you have been near and I have not known it. Please help me to live in communion with you. May that overflow to others.
