The King's Ear

2 Chronicles 24:17 Now after the death of Jehoiada the leaders of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them.

Joash had made tremendous reforms in Judah during the life of Jehoiada the priest. It is written that "Joash did what was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest".
However after the death of the priest, the king listened to the ungodly counsel of the leaders of Judah. The king turned from following God to embracing idolatry (spiritual adultery) and God's wrath came upon Jerusalem and Judah because of it.

Psalm 1 promises a blessing for those who do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. The priest had tremendous influence with the king. May I be a priest who has godly influence on the kings of my day ~ Mayor Linda Bruce and Mayor Dave Bronconnier. My prayer is for God's blessing, not His judgement, on my cities.
