Not Too Tricksy
“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. (Deuteronomy 30:11 NKJV) I read this today was was struck by the song we used to sing "The word of faith is nigh thee, even in thy mouth". As a kid that was the most difficult song to understand. It could be that I thought we were singing "Verna Fay's nightie is in thy mouth". Glad I could finally read the words on the overhead. Strange, the feeling I get when I write my mom's name. Darn I miss her. In any case, Deuteronomy says that following the Lord is not too tricky for me. It may be hard, but it is not complicated. It is not hidden. You just have to do it. Emily Dawn has now lost about 20 pounds since we started the 17 day diet a year ago, and has kept it off. I was floored by this as I found out yesterday. So, my 14 year old can do what I can not. Or choose to not do. It is not too complicated; it just requires discipline. Ah, that's the problem. Dave Ramsey says about finances, the problem is the guy in the mirror who you shave with every day. True for my weight as well. It's not Audrey's fault as she is a great cook, nor the fault that I am a pastor who eats out frequently, nor my kids fault for having cookies in the house, not my schedules fault that I can't exercise. It is me. I have found the enemy, and it is me. Hopefully the motivation of Emily will stick. It has to. May I follow through as well with following the Lord - not complicated, but dedicated. A little Degarmo and Key plays in the background.... He died for me; I'll live for Him. Amen
